Terms of Service
Last updated: 04/09/2026
Draft — not yet legal advice. These terms may change as FamKnit develops.
1. Acceptance of these terms
By creating a FamKnit account, or by being added to a family by an administrator, you agree to these Terms of Service and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use FamKnit.
2. What FamKnit is
FamKnit is a family organizer app: shared and private calendar events, to-do lists, and shopping lists, with per-person reminders. It's built and operated as a small, independent project, based in the United Kingdom.
FamKnit is currently provided free of charge. If that ever changes, we will tell existing users in advance before any charge applies to them.
3. Accounts and eligibility
- You need an account (email + password, or Google sign-in) to use FamKnit as an adult family member. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for activity that happens under your account.
- You must provide a real, working email address you control — it's how we verify your account and deliver security notices.
- FamKnit is intended for adults managing a household. It is not directed at children, and children do not create their own accounts (see “Children” below).
4. Families, admins, and members
FamKnit organizes people into families, joined by invite code.
- Admins can rename the family, rotate the invite code, add members without accounts (e.g. kids), remove members, and promote or demote other members to/from admin.
- Members manage their own content — events, to-dos, shopping items — and can leave the family at any time.
- Because families share calendars and lists, an admin necessarily has some visibility and control over shared family content. Private events and to-dos are visible only to the people they're shared with, as described in our Privacy Policy.
- If you leave a family or are removed from one, your FamKnit account itself is not deleted — you can rejoin with a valid invite code. What happens to content you created is described in our Privacy Policy.
5. Your content
You own the events, to-do items, shopping items, and other content you create in FamKnit. You're responsible for what you and anyone you add to your family (including child profiles) put into the app.
We don't claim any ownership over your content, and we don't use it for anything beyond providing the service to your family — no ads, no selling your data, no training AI models on it. The optional AI-assisted capture feature described in Section 6 sends only what you choose to scan, paste or say to our processor for that specific purpose, nothing else.
6. AI-assisted capture (Smart Scan and Voice notes)
FamKnit offers an optional feature, Smart Scan and Voice notes, that reads a photo, pasted text, or a spoken note you submit and suggests events, to-dos and shopping items from it, using Anthropic's Claude models as a processor. It's off by default and opt-in per member, and nothing it suggests is added to your calendar or lists without you reviewing and confirming it first — it never writes to your family's data on its own.
See our Privacy Policy for what's sent, what isn't stored, and how long Anthropic retains it.
7. Acceptable use
Don't use FamKnit to:
- store or share unlawful content, or content that infringes someone else's rights;
- attempt to access another family's data, or another user's account, without authorization;
- interfere with or disrupt the service (e.g. attempting to overwhelm it with automated requests);
- reverse-engineer the app beyond what's permitted by law.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate this section.
8. Children
FamKnit lets an adult family administrator add family members who don't have their own accounts — typically children — by name only, with no login, email, or device of their own. The administrator adding a child is responsible for that decision. FamKnit does not knowingly collect personal data directly from children, and children cannot sign up for their own account.
9. Availability and changes to the service
FamKnit is a small, independently-run project. We aim to keep it available and your data intact, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted access, and features may be added, changed, or removed as the app evolves. We'll try to give notice of any change that meaningfully affects how you use FamKnit.
10. Termination
You can stop using FamKnit and delete your account at any time from Settings — see our Privacy Policy for exactly what that deletes. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms, or discontinue the service entirely, in which case we'll aim to give you reasonable notice and a chance to export your data first.
11. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
FamKnit is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. In particular, we don't guarantee that reminders will always be delivered on time or at all — treat FamKnit as a helpful convenience, not the sole safeguard for anything critical (medication schedules, appointments with real consequences for missing them, etc.).
To the fullest extent permitted by law, FamKnit is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't lawfully be limited (e.g. for fraud, or death or personal injury caused by negligence).
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any dispute will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
13. Changes to these terms
If we make a material change to these terms, we'll notify account holders by email or in-app notice before the change takes effect.
